Migrant Merchants' Guild

The Migrant Merchants' Guild was a supposedly legitimate trade consortium that advocated for refugee rights and supported the Coruscant reconstruction effort. In reality, the Migrant Merchants' Guild was a highly organized crime syndicate that seized power during the riots in the Old Galactic Market after the Great Galactic War.

History

Even before the war's end, the guild served as a front for money laundering and goods smuggling, but kept mostly to nonviolent crime. Its membership was primarily nonhuman, and represented a powerful economic force inside Coruscant's nonhuman immigrant population. The Migrant Merchants' Guild expanded into bribery and extortion, with the Old Galactic Market as its headquarters, all the while keeping a thin veneer of respectability. Coruscant Security Force patrols often clashed with members of the Migrant Merchants' Guild in an attempt to keep the peace, and had, at the zenith of its power, begun applying its influence less towards shaking down local businesses and more towards interfering in planetary politics.[3]

The Guild was decimated by the death of Abiss Sol'oras and many of its members as well as the Coruscant Security crackdown following the Migrant Merchants' Guild armed insurrection. Even so, the more civilian aspects of the Guild remained unopposed, such as the vendors Veor, Veedo, Qoussk, Geeda, and Grund'messel that wore their Guild armor openly while offering to sell goods such as armor and weapons to passersby in the peaceful parts of the Old Galactic Market, whereas the vendor Edvaalda did the same in the Dealer's Den cantina. The guild leader Prakkath remained at large and vowed that the guild would get what it wanted out of the illicit deal it had with Senator Vanara Kayl.[2]
