Metal-eaters were a type of creature native to the planet Ylagia where they fed upon the jagged spears of the world's iron jungles. By the first year of the Empire's reign after its formation[1] in 19 BBY,[2] metal-eaters were nearly gone from Ylagia, allowing the jungles to grow wild and cover much of the world's eastern continent. However, enough remained to keep the jungles away from Ylagia's city fortresses and preserve the towers that rose from its mountains and spiral roads.[1]

Metal-eaters were mentioned in the 2025 novel Reign of the Empire: The Mask of Fear, which was written by Alexander Freed as the first instalment of the Star Wars: Reign of the Empire trilogy.[1]
