Mellcrawlers were native to Sullust,[1] a volcanic planet in the Outer Rim Territories.[2] They gave off a noxious smell, which worsened when one of the creatures died[1] By the year 20 BBY,[3] the Sullustan reporter Den Dhur was familiar with the smell of a mellcrawler that had been dead for a week.[4]
During that year, while in the cantina of Republic Mobile Surgical Unit 7 on the planet Drongar, Dhur was reminded of the odor of a mellcrawler that had been dead for a week after smelling the Tyrusian red ale being imbibed by his table companion, an Ugnaught named Rorand Zuzz. The Sullustan reporter remembered finding the smell of a dead mellcrawler to be quite unpleasant.[4]
Behind the scenes
The mellcrawler was mentioned in MedStar I: Battle Surgeons, a 2004 Clone Wars novel written by Steve Perry and Michael Reaves as the first part of the MedStar Duology.[4]
