"His housing of agents at his home in Shad on Melinz, though a huge risk, has saved many deep undercover agents from capture."
―Personal addendum by General Airen Cracken to an entry of a datafile detailing Rebel Alliance operatives dedicated to Ytavarg Aleema[2]

Melinz was a terrestrial astronomical object[2] located in the Melinz system of the Core Worlds.[1] It featured foothills situated within the limits of the city Shad.[2]

At some point during the reign of the Galactic Empire, Ger Plortor, a scout for the prominent shockball team Shad Furies, visited the[2] Outer Rim Territories[3] world Keedad while on a vacation. There, Plortor met the Keed Ytavarg Aleema, whom the scout recruited into joining their team. Accompanying Plortor back to Shad, Aleema became a member of the Shad Furies and, eventually, the most famous shockball player in the galaxy. During the Galactic Civil War, he also became an agent of the Rebel Alliance, using his Shad mansion to temporarily house other Rebel agents in need of shelter. By the time that shortly followed the Battle of Yavin, Alliance General Airen Cracken mentioned Melinz in an entry of a datafile detailing various Rebel operatives dedicated to Aleema.[2]

Behind the scenes

Melinz was created by Craig Robert Carey and was introduced in Cracken's Rebel Operatives, a 1994 West End Games sourcebook published for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[2] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Melinz system, and therefore the celestial body itself, in grid square L-9.[1]
