- "He [Boba Fett] used to live among a Tusken Raider tribe in the desert."
"They no longer exist."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. We destroyed them ourselves." - ―Mok Shaiz and a Pyke boss
A massacre of a Tusken Raider tribe was carried out[4] in 5 ABY[3] by the Pyke Syndicate.[5] Pykes used CC-420 pistols to slaughter the tribe.[6]
When Boba Fett returned to their camp after speaking with a Pyke boss in Mos Eisley, he discovered that several members of the tribe were killed, and the symbol of the Nikto Kintan Striders gang was painted on a tent in their camp.[4] Later, Fett rescued Fennec Shand, and when he told her about the massacre, Shand replied that it was highly unlikely that the Nikto speeder bikers were able to massacre the Tusken tribe by themselves. After Fett and Shand recovered the Slave I, they attacked the Kintan Striders to avenge the death of the Tuskens.[2] Later, The Pyke boss revealed to Cad Bane that the Pykes had killed the Tuskens and blamed it on the speeder bike gang. Shortly after, Bane revealed it to Fett.[5]
Behind the scenes
The massacre of Boba Fett's Tusken Raider tribe was first mentioned through its aftermath in the flashbacks of "Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa," the third episode of the Disney+ series Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett[4] on January 12, 2022.[7] The truth that it was the Pyke Syndicate behind the massacre was then revealed in the series finale, "Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor,"[5] on February 9, 2022.[7] The Star Wars Insider article "World Building"—which was written by James Floyd and published within Insider issue 227[8] on August 27, 2024[9]—later alleged that the Pykes dispatched the Kintan Striders to carry out the massacre for them.[8] However, "In the Name of Honor" makes it clear that the Pyke Syndicate itself carried out the attack and simply blamed it on the striders.[5]
