- "Assessor, this is Dorion Discus. Ah, negative on customs inspection. We have a priority cargo for the Imperial base on Markon IV."
- ―Roark Garnet attempts to bluff the Imperial Customs Frigate Assessor
Markon IV was a terrestrial celestial body[2] located in the Markon system of the Core Worlds.[1] During the Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance, it hosted an Imperial base.[2]
At one point during that conflict, the Imperial Customs Frigate Assessor intercepted the light freighter Dorion Discus in the Thorgeld system. Hoping to stall for time before executing a hyperspace jump out of the system, the smuggler Roark Garnet contacted the Assessor and claimed that the Dorion Discus could not be boarded. The smuggler further bluffed that the starship was carrying important cargo for the base on Markon IV and that priority authorization for the shipment had been filed on the planet Thorgeld I, which the vessel had just departed. However, the crew of the Assessor did not fall for Garnet's bluff and fired a warning shot at the light freighter in response.[2]
Behind the scenes
Markon IV was first mentioned in the 1987 rulebook for the first edition of West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[2] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Markon system, and therefore Markon IV, in grid square L-9.[1]
