- "Don't stop. Don't hide. Just run, and let the armor do its work."
- ―Rebel troopers
The marine armor, also known as the Rebel reconnaissance armor, was a type of armor that was used by the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War.
Description
Mon Calamari wearing Marine armor and casual dress.
The Rebel marine armor was developed for light, modern combat and was often worn by a soldier needing to retain their agility.[3] It offered a high degree of protection against energy-based weapons like blasters but lesser protection from kinetic damage.[1] The complete armor set was composed of the helmet, chest plate, left & right biceps, left & right bracers, gloves, leggings, boots and backpack.[3]
History
After the Battle of Yavin, the marine armor was one the most common models of armor used by the Alliance armed forces. It equipped an important number of specialized Rebel soldiers such as Rebel troopers, marksmen, grenadiers, guards and warrant officers. However, in most of the situations, Alliance troops did not wear the complete armor set but only the chest plate and leggings.[3]
Major Eker used to wear a green marine armor.[2]
In 1 ABY,[8] a spacer retrieved nine parts of a lost Rebel marine armor while visiting multiple worlds in the galaxy and finally assembled the complete armor.[9]
Behind the scenes
The Marine armor appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[3] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[10] The Marine armor was the only Rebel armor present in the original release of the game.[3] It was later made one of the three Rebel faction armors and adapted to the new armor system of the "Combat Upgrade,"[1][11] released on April 27, 2005.[12]

- ↑ The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
