The Malandro syndicate was the leading criminal syndicate on the planet Tangenine, led by the Falleen gangster Annaz. They extorted protection money from a norango farm owned by Remba and Kelven. When the farm failed to pay up, Annaz killed Remba and Kelven leaving their children, Lauren Mel Coelho and Julien orphaned and forced to live with their gran. Their gran soon fell ill and died and when Julien fell ill, Lauren came to the Malandro syndicate to take a job to pay for his cure. However, she was caught by the authorities and landed in jail. Julien was dead by the time she was free.[1]
When the Galactic Empire came to Tangenine, they realized the Malandro syndicate was too embedded into the system and turned to bounty hunters to clean up for them. Lauren returned under the alias Brand. She took jobs primarily against the Malandro syndicate. With other bounty hunters taking jobs on their gangsters as well, the Malandro syndicate started to deteriorate in numbers. Brand eventually got revenge on Annaz for the killing of her parents by killing her personally. The Malandro syndicate fragmented shortly after.[1]
