Behind the scenes

On February 4, 2022, the MD-CH1 Droid was announced to appear[1] in the 2022 expansion Legacy of the Sith to BioWare's 2011 massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Star Wars: The Old Republic.[2] The droid was made available as a minipet in the Darth Malgus-themed "Legacy of the Sith: Digital Collector’s Edition" bundle.[1]

The MD-CH1 Droid was designed by concept artist Bradley W. Lewis, who first revealed on his ArtStation account that the droid was inspired by a set of macrobinoculars, using similar but slightly different sets of camera parts than the ones used in the original prop from A New Hope. He also use other vintage camera gear for inspiration such as a vintage Graflex side grip and vintage lamp parts for the legs. Lewis stated that droid was nicknamed "murderchicken one," which led to the in-universe designation MD-CH1.[3]
