"Look for us in the still depths of your mind."
―The Leviathan Kithnarrock, telepathically communicating with a group of Jedi and their companions[1]

The Leviathans were a tentacled sentient species residing on the waterworld Arrakan. The thousand-year-old Force-sensitive Leviathan Kithnarrock was worshipped as a god by the planet's Battrach species, and during the Galactic Civil War, he helped a group of Jedi and their companions reach a secret Rebel Alliance sanctuary offworld.

Biology and appearance

The Leviathans were a sentient[1] species,[1][2] members of which had multiple tentacles and at least one huge, ominous eye.[1]

History

"Who are you? What do you seek?"
―Kithnarrock, telepathically communicating with a group of Jedi and their companions[1]

The Leviathans resided on the waterworld Arrakan. Kithnarrock was a vast Leviathan who was too large to be easily seen in his entirety and appeared as a mass of shadow and thrashing tentacles. He inhabited the depths of the ocean on Arrakan and, by the time of the Galactic Civil War, had reached an age of one thousand years. Kithnarrock was Force-sensitive and regularly communed with by the Duor, the dominant sentient species on Arrakan, while the Battrach, another local species of sentients which had been genetically engineered by the Duor, worshipped the Leviathan as a god and the creator of their world.[1]

During the Great Jedi Purge and the Galactic Civil War, a group of Jedi and their companions traveled to Arrakan in order to learn the location of a secret offworld Rebel Alliance sanctuary from a contact named "Narrock"—who, unbeknown to the group, was in reality Kithnarrock. The Duor eventually led the group to meet the Leviathan, who, after a telepathic conversation with them, planted the coordinates of the sanctuary in the subconscious of one of the Jedi's companions.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Leviathans appeared in the second part of Phil Sidebotham's roleplaying adventure "Flight of the Jedi," which was published in the Spring 2000 twentieth issue of the Valkyrie magazine for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. Since that article was released outside of the Lucas Licensing process,[1] it was considered non-canonical with respect to the Star Wars Legends continuity.[3] However, the Leviathans specifically were indirectly mentioned in the October 17, 2013 StarWars.com article "Drawing from the Imagination: Mythological Creatures in Star Wars, Part 1."[2]
