- "That was the By'ynium, Lench's ship. He was a good captain. Good crew on that vessel."
- ―Republic captain Quegh on the destruction of the By'ynium during the Battle of Praesitlyn
Lench was a male captain who served the Republic Navy during the Clone Wars. He captained the heavy cruiser By'ynium during the Battle of Praesitlyn, and was killed when the starship was destroyed.
History
Around 22 BBY, during the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems launched an attack on Praesitlyn. Lench was part of a Republic Navy fleet sent to retake the planet, commanding the heavy cruiser By'ynium. As the Ranger, a Centax-class heavy frigate serving as the flagship, launched the first salvo on the Confederacy forces, the By'ynium was hit by the CIS counterattack and destroyed. The captain died in the explosion, his death witnessed by Captain Quegh and Jedi General Nejaa Halcyon on the bridge of the Ranger.[2]
Personality and traits
Lench was a highly competent captain and commanded an equally efficient crew—at least, according to fellow officer Quegh, who lamented Lench's death.[2]
Behind the scenes
Lench made his first and only appearance in Jedi Trial, the fourth novel in the Clone Wars multimedia project, written by David Sherman and Dan Cragg.[2]
