- "Before they were halfway to the ship, they smelled something else. Something animal, mixed with something not-animal. Something that crashed loudly through the forest like a kurnbeast drunk on mattberries."
- ―Part of Voren Na'al's report on the interview with Wicket Wystri Warrick
Kurnbeasts were a type of creature found on the forest moon of Endor. Following the Battle of Endor[1] in 4 ABY,[2] the Rebel Alliance historian Voren Na'al interviewed the Ewok Wicket Wystri Warrick, with the protocol droid C-3PO translating from Ewokese into Galactic Basic. During the interview, Warrick described his tribe's first encounter with Imperial stormtroopers and compared the noise the troopers had made while moving through the forest to the sounds of a kurnbeast crashing loudly through the forest while drunk on mattberries. Na'al later compiled the interview into a report.[1]
Behind the scenes
Kurnbeasts were mentioned in "The Ewok Defenses," a short story written by Michael Stern and first published in Galaxy Guide 5: Return of the Jedi, a supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game released by West End Games in 1990.[1]
