Kru-kru was a type of crop found on the swamp planet Safrifa. The crop could be grown in floating beds constructed from mud and vegetation, which would keep the kru-kru's roots from becoming waterlogged with marshwater. During the High Republic Era, Safrifan swamp farmers cultivated it in large farms stretching many kilometers, kept a series of plots framed by willow trestles, and surrounded by a canal network.[1]
In 231 BBY,[2] the mercenary Ty Yorrick visited one of Safrifa's kru-kru farms, trudging through a portion of it. She was impressed with the Safrifans' cultivation of land she felt was hard to make fertile, mentally commending them for their ingenuity.[1]
Behind the scenes
Kru-kru was mentioned in the novel The High Republic: The Rising Storm, written by Cavan Scott[1] for the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase I and published on June 29, 2021.[3] Prior to its release, a mention of the plant was included in a StarWars.com preview for the novel on April 22 of that year.[4]
