Tipoca City on Kamino utilized Krorral-style domed structures.
Krorral was a form of architecture known for its use on the planet Kashyyyk, the colonies of Alaris, and adaptation on Kamino. Krorral utilized domed structures that were effective in shedding rain and wind.
Description
Krorral was an architectural form that involved large dome structures and—like other architecture developed on the planet Kashyyyk—emphasized the integration of a building with its environment. The domes were highly effective in keeping rainwater flowing off their surfaces.[1]
History
Krorral was known for its Middle-period use in the compounds of the Gkrur clan on the Kashyyyk and in the Wookiee moon colonies of Alaris,[1] a gas giant also in the Kashyyyk system.[2] The architecture resembled the original terrestrial colonies on the planet Kamino, which were constructed with wattle and daub and suited the long stormy seasons. After Kamino's ice age ended, causing a Great Flood and constant rain[1] beginning in 19,000 BBY,[2] the graceful curves[3] of Middle-period Krorral were adopted in almost every major Kaminoan city, including the planet's capital, Tipoca City,[1] and Timira City[4] for their rain-sloughing[1] and wind-shedding[5] nature and resemblance to the old colonies. The design of these cities, along with stilts applied from the Alderaanian Oversea style, were some of the only instances of offworld influence on Kaminoan culture,[1] provided by some of the galaxy's keenest architectural minds.[3]
Behind the scenes
The domed architecture of Tipoca City was first described in the 2002 novelization of Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, written by R. A. Salvatore. It was later identified as Krorral in the 2004 sourcebook for the Star Wars Roleplaying Game, Geonosis and the Outer Rim Worlds, written by Craig R. Carey, Jason Fry, Jeff Quick, and Daniel Wallace,[1] and was again directly referred to in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia.[6]
