- "Tell Captain Kagi to prepare my shuttle for immediate takeoff."
- ―Emperor Palpatine to Mas Amedda
Kagi was a Human male clone trooper pilot in the service of the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars, holding the rank of captain. In 19 BBY, following the formation of the Galactic Empire, Kagi was tasked with preparing Emperor Palpatine's Theta-class shuttle for departure to the Outer Rim world of Mustafar, where the Emperor recovered his injured apprentice Darth Vader.
Biography
Created on the planet Kamino,[1] Kagi was the nickname of a clone trooper captain[2] serving the Galactic Republic[4] during the Clone Wars as Palpatine's personal pilot.[5] By the conclusion of the war in 19 BBY, Kagi was charged with preparing Supreme Chancellor Palpatine's private Theta-class shuttle for takeoff.[4]
In 19 BBY, Palpatine formally dissolved the Republic, replacing it with a Galactic Empire with himself as Emperor. Palpatine, secretly the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious, attempted to wipe out the Jedi Order to secure his power; in response, Jedi Masters Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi set out to kill the two Sith—Yoda confronted Palpatine in the Senate rotunda, and Kenobi fought Darth Vader on the Outer Rim world of Mustafar. Once Palpatine forced Yoda to flee, he felt that Vader was in danger; the Emperor turned to his assistant Mas Amedda and had him inform Kagi to prepare his shuttle for immediate departure for Mustafar.[4]
Kagi's service as a Captain continued under the Galactic Empire where he served as the Emperor's shuttle pilot. During this time, he piloted a Lambda-class T-4a shuttle.[6]
Personality and traits
Cloned from the genetic template of bounty hunter Jango Fett, Kagi stood at 1.83 meters tall.[1]
Behind the scenes

Captain Kagi was first mentioned in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith,[4] released on May 19, 2005.[7] The only reference to the captain was a single line of dialogue spoken by Palpatine prior to his departure for Mustafar.[4] On October 2008, the trivia book Obsessed With Star Wars was released[8] and provided new information about Kagi. Question 944 of the trivia book asks which clone captain did Emperor Palpatine ask to prepare his shuttle after his duel with Yoda and gives the possible answers of A. Captain Kogge, B. Captain Kagi, C. Captain Cargo, and D. Captain Clog. With answer B. Captain Kagi being the correct answer, it revealed that Kagi was a clone trooper and not an ordinary crewman.[2] The release of The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia on December 9, 2008[9] further revealed that Kagi was Palpatine's personal pilot during the Clone Wars.[5] Released on April 2, 2005,[10] the reference book Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Incredible Cross-Sections depicts a clone piloting what is identified as Palpatine's secure, personal Theta-class T-2c shuttle.[11]
