The K-DT17c sublight engine was a model of sublight engine manufactured by the Kazellan Corporation. During the High Republic Era, they were used on Corporate Sector Authority DTE-CSA-17 Calaboose prison ships, which were also made by Kazellan. In 132 BBY, the K-DT17c sublight engines of the prison ship Palwick sputtered and failed when it hit asteroids in the Carlac belt of the Carlac system, with one engine becoming separated from the starship when it crashed into the surface of the planet Carlac.

Description

The K-DT17c sublight engine was a model of sublight engine manufactured by the Kazellan Corporation and used in the company's DTE-CSA-17 Calaboose prison ship, which were equipped with two K-DT17c engines at their rear.[1] The engines were gray and cylindrical, emitting a yellow light from one end when in use.[2]

History

The Corporate Sector Authority DTE-CSA-17 Calaboose prison ship Palwick was equipped with two K-DT17c sublight engines when it was commandeered by the Jedi Order to collect the prisoner Verosha Aniseya from the Trade Federation WD-2250 Whydah-class Yield Conveyer Fallon[1] in 132 BBY[3] during the High Republic Era. Tasked with delivering Aniseya to the planet Coruscant, the Palwick jumped to hyperspace but ended up in the Carlac system after a group of prisoners on board disabled the starship's droid crew.[1]

The Palwick flies through the Carlac belt of asteroids with the yellow light of its two K-DT17c sublight engines visible.

The Palwick's K-DT17c sublight engines sputtered and failed as it hit asteroids in the Carlac belt.

Once the Palwick reverted from hyperspace, its two sublight engines activated, but as the ship struck several asteroids in the Carlac belt, the two K-DT17c units began to sputter. Soon, one engine had cut out entirely and the other continued sputtering, leaving the ship to drift into more asteroids as it headed toward the planet Carlac. Spiraling into the world's atmosphere, the Palwick crashed into the rocky surface, breaking the ship's left K-DT17c sublight engine free and sending it spiralling off into the snow nearby. The other engine remained attached to the wrecked vessel as it drifted to a halt.[2]

Behind the scenes

K-DT17c sublight engine first appeared in "Lost / Found,"[2] the first episode of the television series Star Wars: The Acolyte, which aired June 4, 2024, on Disney+.[4] They were first identified in Pablo Hidalgo's 2025 reference book Star Wars: The Acolyte: The Visual Guide.[1]
