"For me it's one of the greatest honors and pleasures to highlight the wonderful diversity of characters in comics. Maybe we come to stories because it's sci-fi, or action, or thriller, or whatever, really. But if we stay in them, if those stories stick with us, it is because of the characters."
―Javier Garrón[3]

Javier Garrón (born August 17 in El Puerto de Santa María, Andalusia, Spain) is a Spanish comic book artist. For the Star Wars franchise, Garrón illustrated Pride Month variant covers for the comic series Star Wars: The High Republic and Star Wars: Han Solo & Chewbacca.

Biography

"Being invited to portray these two amazing characters was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I couldn't let slip away. It's a chance to highlight what I love about them and Star Wars: it's an endless universe, immensely diverse and inclusive. . . . So I wanted to draw Terec and Cerec as the powerful characters they are, filled with determination and hope. Because that's what a great Jedi means to me. And representation matters."
―Javier Garrón, on illustrating Terec and Ceret[4]

Javier Garrón was born on August 17[1] in El Puerto de Santa María, Spain.[2] His first Star Wars project was a variant cover for the sixth issue of[4] the 2021 series[5] Star Wars: The High Republic featuring[4] the Jedi bond-twins[6] Terec and Ceret.[4] Garrón illustrated the cover alongside comic colorist Marte Gracia.[7] In an interview with StarWars.com, Garrón shared that he felt it was a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" to draw the two characters.[4] On March 31, 2021, Garrón officially revealed the cover on Twitter in honor of International Transgender Day of Visibility.[7] It was later published on June 30 of the same year.[8]

In 2022, Garrón illustrated a second variant cover alongside colorist Jesus Aburtov,[9] this time for the fourth issue of the comic series Star Wars: Han Solo & Chewbacca. The cover features Jedi Lula Talisola and Force-sensitive Zeen Mrala in an embrace and was published on July 20 of the same year. In an interview, Garrón stated that it was a great honor and pleasure to illustrate Talisola and Mrala. The cover was designed to demonstrate a peaceful and intimate moment between the two characters in contrast to the larger galactic storylines they have been a part of.[3]
