Jarna was a human[1] female active during the High Republic Era as part of the Jedi Order. She was present on[2] the Outer Rim planet[3] Valo for some time and trained as a Jedi youngling.[2] Jarna had dark eyes, light skin, and black hair she kept in a braided style. The youngling wore brown Jedi robes that featured a lighter undertunic, light gray leggings, and brown boots. She donned a yellow sash under her utility belt and wielded a yellow lightsaber.[1]

Jarna was created for Escape from Valo,[2] a 2024 junior novel written by Daniel José Older and Alyssa Wong as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase III.[4] Her name was first revealed in the 2025 reference book The Art of Star Wars: The High Republic: Volume II, written by Kristin Baver. The reference book also included two pieces of Jarna's May 2023 concept art by artist Petur Antonsson.[1] In an interview, Wong specified that the Jedi girl had been drafted to have trouble controlling the Force due to her anger issues. However, the character was ultimately not included in the final version of the novel, leaving elements of her personality to be absorbed into the remaining Jedi younglings featured in the work—Gavi, Kildo, and Tep Tep. Wong also mentioned that the girl's personality trait of "feeling everything" at once was something ultimately folded into Gavi's storyline.[2]
