Jara fish

A jara fish was a type of fish that lived on[1] the planet[2] Mon Cala. As a youth, the Mon Calamari Ghal Tarpfen used to sit outside her underwater house, watching the flotsam float down from above. One day she saw a dead jara fish, with the sight made gruesome by the fact that the creature was in several pieces: its fin, tail, and head, whose eyes stared confusedly. Later in life, when being blackmailed by the Nihil marauders, Tarpfen felt similarly dismembered and set adrift as that jara fish had been.[1]

Behind the scenes

Jara fish were mentioned in the first installment of "Starlight: Shadows Remain," a short story written by Justina Ireland and published in the 207th issue of the Star Wars Insider magazine as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic: Starlight serialized fiction[1] on December 14, 2021.[3]
