JanMincénte was a mustached Human male Jedi Master who lived in 345 BBY. JanMincénte instructed Jedi Padawans in the art of lightsaber combat at the Jedi academy based at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. As part of the training, JanMincénte would challenge his students to lightsaber fencing duels, but quickly grew tired of winning easily, realizing it wasn't an effective way to teach his students.[1]

He created the Lightsaber Fencing Tournament as means for students to directly test their skills against each other. The tournament quickly emerged as a way for Jedi students to distinguish themselves and continued for at least 150 years.[1]
