Iyred was a world[3] located in the Iyred system, a part of the Outer Rim Territories' Kibilini sector.[1] At one point, its surface was covered with tropical[4] and temperate[3] forests.[4] That habitat was home to the Black Bha'lir, a species of large feline predators.[3]
Eventually, Iyred became the site of construction efforts[4] that brought deforestation and desolation to the world. As the Black Bha'lir's food sources became depleted, the creatures faced starvation and ultimately were officially listed as extinct. However, the Black Bha'lir, an interstellar organization of smugglers and pirates that had adopted the creature as a mascot,[3] led several missions to rescue the large felines,[4] with small numbers of the creatures eventually being raised at isolated offworld refuges.[3]
Behind the scenes
Iyred was mentioned in The Black Sands of Socorro, a 1997 sourcebook authored by Patricia A. Jackson for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[3] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Iyred system, and therefore the world Iyred, in grid square Q-17.[2]
