Irontrees were a type of tree native to Mustafar, notably found within the forest of Corvax Fen. Many had been planted by the Alazmec of Winsit, in a vain attempt to replenish Mustafar's ecosystem. Most of the trees had died off due to the planet's harsh condition.[1] By 35 ABY,[2] when Supreme Leader Kylo Ren arrived on Mustafar to retrieve the Sith wayfinder which belonged to his grandfather Darth Vader, several irontrees were on his way to Fortress Vader as he fought against the Alazmec of Winsit.[3]
Behind the scenes
- "We're trying to make peace with why there's water on Mustafar, so we're going to make it a boiling lake. And when we're in the forest, there's ash, burning trees, and things like that. Also, there are 'colonial settlers' there now. People have taken Mustafar back. That's why the forest that we're doing the fight in only has saplings. They've only been there for twenty or thirty years, rather than the hundreds of years that big trees need to grow."
- ―Kevin Jenkins
Irontrees first appeared in the 2019 film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, the third and final installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy.[3] They were first identified in the accompanying reference book Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary.[1]
In the 2020 art book The Art of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, co-production designer Kevin Jenkins stated that the irontrees were planted twenty or thirty years prior in comparison to the one hundred years that big trees needed to grow,[4] placing the irontrees' plantation around 15 ABY or 5 ABY.[5]

- ↑ Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary dates the events of Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker to one year after the events of Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. As Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates the events of The Force Awakens to 34 ABY, the events of The Rise of Skywalker must occur in 35 ABY.

Because The Art of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker states that the Iron trees needed twenty or thirty years to grow, it can be deduced that they were either planted around 5 ABY or 15 ABY.
