An ion piston was a component within the ion drives of Storm IV Twin-Pod cloud cars[1] and landspeeders such as the V-35 Courier. Ion pistons were susceptible to damage from small particles, such as sand.[2] Along with other modifications, loosing the ion piston gave the engine around an extra 400 revs per second, increasing a cloud car's speed and acceleration.[1]
