After the takeover of the Outer Rim planet of Lothal by the Galactic Empire, Lothal saw a rise in insurgent activity. Among the earliest revolutionaries were Ephraim and Mira Bridger, who beamed out transmissions of hope and rebellion against the Empire. These individuals and independent groups were crushed by the Imperial war machine, and throughout the Imperial governorship of Lothal, protests and insurgent activities were answered by mass arrests and crackdowns. Among those arrested were Ephraim and Mira Bridger, along with the Governor of Lothal Ryder Azadi, who among others in the government, were secret rebel sympathizers.[2]
Eventually, a spark of rebellion had ignited by 5 BBY,[3][1] and Ezra Bridger, the son of Ephraim and Mira Bridger, eventually joined the Spectres, a rebel group, and beamed out a message of of resistance. The Imperial backlash was significant, as suspected rebel safe houses were raided and suspected rebels were arrested.[2]
