- "But following Palpatine's death, and the realization that Mas Amedda was not going to work as a replacement, he contacted Imperial forces across the galaxy to declare that he was invoking Imperial Security Code 88173.1—which did not exist—to declare himself Emperor. His 'rule'—which was ignored by the military—lasted less than three days before he was murdered by one of his lovers."
- ―Beaumont Kin, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire
Imperial Security Code 88173.1 was a security code that Grand Moff Plorest of the Corusca sector invoked when contacting the forces of the Galactic Empire across the galaxy to declare himself Galactic Emperor following the death of Emperor Sheev Palpatine[1] in 4 ABY.[2] However, the code did not exist and Imperial forces ignored Plorest, who was killed within three days of the declaration. The historian Beaumont Kin mentioned Plorest's use of the fictional code in[1] his[3] book The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire[1] in 35 ABY.[4]
Behind the scenes
Imperial Security Code 88173.1 was mentioned in the 2024 reference book Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, which was written by Dr. Chris Kempshall.[1]

- ↑ Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire states that thirty years have passed since the end of the Galactic Civil War and months have passed since the Battle of Exegol. As Star Wars: Timelines dates the end of the war to 5 ABY and the Battle of Exegol to 35 ABY, the in-universe The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire must have been published in 35 ABY.
