This particular model of Star Destroyer served in the Galactic Empire.
Characteristics
The class appeared to be a hybrid of the Venator-class and the Imperial-class Star Destroyers, but was smaller than both and had a visual protrusion at the bow. It also bore certain similarities to the Acclamator-class ships, one of the earliest iterations of the Star Destroyer archetype. Notably, the design had armor that could extend and retract around the vessel itself. A small hangar bay was located on the top of the ship's bow.[1]
It was equipped with four main engines that were of a similar design to the engines of the Venator-class. It also shared the characteristic arrow-shaped command tower of the Venator-class.
It was armed with six turbolaser towers lined up in threes along the ship's dorsal hull and a turbolaser turret located in the center of its dorsal hull.
History
Multiple of these transports were present at the TIE Fighter Construction Facility above Nar Shaddaa when Jedi Master Rahm Kota's militia forces attacked sometime around 3 BBY.
An Imperial Heavy Transport in a shield corridor
A ship of this class was used to ferry tributary superlasers and other newly assembled components from Desolation Station to the Death Star construction site. These components were transferred to the ship via tractor beams while it sat safely within a shield corridor. During an attack on the station by X2 and a team of rebel operatives, X2 infiltrated the station, disabled the shield corridor, and used a stole TIE fighter to neutralize the ship's weaponry before landing in its hangar. He fought his way to the weapons control room where he activated the backwards-facing superlaser to destroy Desolation Station.[2]
Behind the Scenes
In the game files of The Force Unleashed, these ships are referred to as "ImpHeavyTrans," meaning Imperial Heavy Transport. They are briefly glimpsed throughout scenes of the space battle around the TIE Fighter Construction Facility. Given this file name, the function of each vessel type and the extensive visual similarities, at least in regard to the in-game model, it is possible that these ships are refitted Venators.[3]
A ship identical to the one depicted in The Force Unleashed appears in the Nintendo DS version of Battlefront: Elite Squadron.[4]
