Identiplates were installed aboard starships to record the ownership history of the vessel. The Millennium Falcon's identiplate was removed long before it came under the ownership of either Lando Calrissian or Han Solo, which made it an asset for smuggling. Because the identiplate was removed, the ship's previous owners were largely unknown.[1]
