The IX-6 heavy combat droid was a heavy battle droid manufactured by Roche, a Verpine corporation, based in the Roche asteroids.
History
IX-6 heavy combat droid, alongside Aggressor-series battle droid and LON-29 battle droid commander
Having previously endured subjugation by the Galactic Empire, Verpine engineers designed the IX-6 to deter incursion into the Roche asteroid belt. When the resurrected Galactic Empire came to rise years later, Verpine increased the production of the droids and spread them throughout their hives, as well as continued to sell them to other interested parties.[1]
After Darth Krayt's takeover of the Empire, Roche was ordered to immediately cease the production of the IX-6 and destroy all existing models. Not willing to succumb to the Empire, Roche spread the factories throughout the asteroid belt, hiding them deep in asteroids which appeared abandoned from the surface. When the Empire learned of the defiance, a fleet of Star Destroyers blasted several heavily populated Verpine asteroids to dust. Even after the punishment, Roche continued to produce new IX-6 units and smuggled them to anyone who could afford them.[1]
In combat, the IX-6 model sometimes served under LON-29 battle droid commanders. Despite his Empire outlawing them, Darth Krayt used several IX-6 heavy combat droids as training droids for his Sith underlings.[1]
