The Hutt Asteroid Station, sometimes known as the Pirate Asteroid Base, Black Sun pirate asteroid base or a simple base, was a standardised design of space station built into the surface of an asteroid. Designed and manufactured by the Hutts during the Galactic Civil War, they were commonly used by pirates, Black Sun, and outlaws throughout the galaxy as well as their designers.
Characteristics
The Asteroid Station was well-armed, with two laser cannons, four turbolaser batteries, two concussion missile launchers, an inbuilt shield generator, and considerable hangars for fightercraft. It was this heavy armament which led to their popularity with mercenary and pirate groups.
They would come into contact with both Imperial and Rebel forces on a number of occasions, including an Imperial raid on a pirate nest over Ilum. The asteroid base was very weak compared to the Alliance Space Station and Cardan-class space station used during the Galactic Civil War.
