Howie was a tauntaun present at Echo Base during the Battle of Hoth. The Sacred Order of Ramulus, who sought to archive all of galactic history, stored a holographic simulation of the base, including the tauntaun, at the HoloSimulator attached to the archive known as the Observatory. Long after the battle, the Shozer Wett Zantu found the tauntaun in the simulation and named him "Howie." Despite only being the hologram of a tauntaun, Wett Zantu became attached and worried about Howie when the Observatory and HoloSimulator became plagued by a virus called the corruption.[1]
