A holographic shell was a large-scale type of holographic disguise matrix used by vehicles and starships, and cost 5,500 credits. Using a combination of optical camouflage and high-resolution holograms, a holographic shell could create a disguised exterior that was extremely difficult to detect. Holographic shells had some limitations, however; the system had only enough memory for a single disguise, which had to be programmed in ahead of time, and could not be changed on the fly. Additionally, the disguise was only effective from several or more meters away—closely investigating or touching the disguise would ruin the illusion.[1]
