"Ah, I should have told them to check the temple."
―The Ronin[1]

The Hidden Temple was a structure that existed beneath a waterfall on the Outer Rim planet of Genbara. The temple and its waterfall were located near a village that was attacked by bandits two decades after the failed Sith rebellion. During the battle, the former Sith known as the Ronin dueled the bandit's leader, a Sith and self-styled Dark Lord named Kouru, at the waterfall. The Ronin jumped from the top of the waterfall and concealed himself in the temple, setting a trap for Kouru. Kouru saw his lightsaber activated, and lunged to attack him, only to realized she instead bisected a statue. Ronin used this distraction to kill the bandit leader.

Entrance to the temple, near the waterfall

The Hidden Temple was a raised structure built in a rocky cave behind a waterfall[2] on the Outer Rim planet of Genbara.[1] The building had a wide, sloping roof with curved eaves and was supported by multiple pillars that extended down to the ground below. It included a wraparound veranda with railings and a short staircase on one side. The walls featured sliding doors and latticed panels. The surroundings consisted of rock formations and the waterfall stream.[2] Its flooring was made of stone, and the temple featured a Jedi statue.[1]

History

Two decades after the failed Sith rebellion, self-styled Dark Lord of the Sith Kouru led Bandit Troopers to raid a village, where they met resistance from hired bounty hunter bodyguards and the former Sith known as the Ronin, along with his companion astromech droid R5-D56.[1] In the course of the Ronin's duel with Kouru, they ended up near the waterfall where the temple was located. The Ronin jumped from the waterfall and concealed himself in the temple. He placed his activated lightsaber in the hands of the Jedi statue.[3]

Kouru, seeing the red lightsaber through the cascade, swiftly lunged forward to strike it, believing it was her rival. In one motion, she bisected the statue, and as she realized her mistake, the Ronin activated the hidden blade in his scabbard auxiliary, fatally piecing Kouru through the chest.[3] After considering the desecrated Jedi statue, the Ronin offered a brief, silent prayer for both it and Kouru.[1]

Some time later, she was resurrected in that temple by Mirahi, the Ronin's daughter. Later that evening, the Ronin saw funeral pyre smoke billowing from the village that had been attacked earlier that day, and realized he forgot to tell the villagers to check the temple for Kouru's body before the cremation. In his head, Mirahi's voice suggested there was still time for him to do that, which he ignored as he believed it to be a trap for him.[1]

The temple first appeared in "The Duel," a non-canon short film released as part of the first volume of the Star Wars: Visions series, produced by Kamikaze Douga, and released on Disney+[3] on September 22, 2021.[4] Concept art included in the episode "The Duel" of the featurette series Star Wars: Visions Filmmaker Focus,[2] released on Disney+ on the same day as the short film,[5] depicted the exterior of the building, as well as an alternative design in which the Jedi statue is located on a dais in front of the remains of a small TIE fighter.[2] A whiteboard illustration by the production team named the location "かくし寺" (Hidden Temple).[6]
