Hermetic breath mask

A hermetic breath mask^[1] was a type of black climber's^[3] breath mask^[1] that covered the wearer's entire face with a single black visor over the eyes. There was also a gray grille over the wearer's mouth with circular, gray oxygen concentrators protruding from either side.^[3] In 10 BBY,^[4] the big game hunter Iothene Jacontro wore a hermetic breath mask while at the Lodge on the mountainous planet Vandor.^[3] In 1 BBY,^[5] the partisan mechanic Dafir Toogan had to wear a hermetic breath mask due to fuel and coolant exposure he experienced while working on the Cavern Angels starfighter squadron^[1] on the moon Jedha.^[2]

Behind the scenes

The hermetic breath mask was created for the Anthology Series film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story^[2] which was released on December 16, 2016.^[6] Concept art including the mask titled "Jedha Extras Silhouettes 1" was drawn for the film by costume concept artist Adam Brockbank.^[7] Prior to the film's release, the mask was revealed as part of a reel of promotional footage for Rogue One shown at Celebration Europe on July 15, 2016.^[8] The breath mask was then identified in the 2023 reference book Star Wars: Dawn of Rebellion: The Visual Guide, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo and Emily Shkoukani.^[1]
