- "The HK8 has a low ammo capacity, overheats during rapid fire, and is widely considered ugly."
- ―Ephant Mon writes about the HK8 in the Smuggler's Guide
The HK8 Sawtooth was a blaster pistol with low ammunition capacity and a tendency to overheat during rapid fire. Despite being considered ugly, it was popular with criminal enforcers prior to entering mass production. The arms dealer Masse Goskey owned HK8 Sawtooths that he argued over with his partner Ephant Mon before Mon fatally shot him with one of the pistols. The criminal Razzi Syndicate also managed to acquire the weapon prior to it entering mass production.
Description
- "Looking back, the HK8 pistol proved valuable after all. It leaves a good-sized wound in a humanoid torso."
- ―Ephant Mon
The HK8 Sawtooth was a blaster pistol that was black in color and had a lengthy barrel and shoulder stock. It had low ammunition capacity and overheated during rapid fire. It was capable of leaving a good-sized wound in a human torso.[1]
History
- "Listen up, loser. We're selling the Sawtooth. In fact, bring as many as you can, and don't question me again."
- ―Masse Gosskey orders Ephant Mon to pack HK8 Sawtooth
Prior to the weapon entering mass production, it was considered the hottest item for criminal syndicate street enforcers to use despite being widely considered ugly.[1] By 10 BBY,[2] the arms dealer Masse Goskey had several in his inventory, but prior to an arms deal with the Pyke Syndicate, Goskey's partner Ephant Mon ranked the pistol lowest while organizing Goskey's inventory in order of greatest potential profit based on historical analysis of the invisible market and current demand on the Undervine.[1]
Masse Gosskey and Ephant Mon argued over HK8 Sawtooths.
Writing in the book that would become known as the Smuggler's Guide, Goskey questioned the decision, pointing out the weapon's current popularity, but Mon listed the HK8's flaws and that a syndicate buyer would be unlikely to chase fashions, guessing that the pistol's bubble of popularity would soon pop. Goskey ignored the advice and ordered Mon to bring as many HK8s to the arms deal as he could. Mon then shot and killed Goskey with one of the HK8 Sawtooths.[1]
Also by 10 BBY,[2] Qi'ra of the Crimson Dawn later discovered HK8 Sawtooths amongst the goods seized from a raid on a warehouse owned by the criminal Razzi Syndicate. While inventorying the goods in the book that would become the Smuggler's Guide, she did not consider them especially notable, but did comment that since the weapons were not yet being mass produced it suggested that the Razzi Syndicate had robust supply lines with gunrunners.[1]
Behind the scenes
The HK8 Sawtooth was first mentioned in the 2018 reference book Star Wars: Smuggler's Guide, which was written by Daniel Wallace and included an illustration of the weapon by Javier Charro Martinez.[1]
