- "These primitives must not be allowed to thrive unchecked."
- ―Darth Maul
A series of hidden farms belonging to the Gungan species was located north of the city Rellias on the planet Naboo. The farms were operated by worker glurrgs and guarded by kaadu cavalry. In 32 BBY, the Trade Federation invaded Naboo, and the farms were uncovered by the Sith apprentice Darth Maul, who massacred the Gungans and glurrgs there and destroyed the farms.
Description
- "What is this? A hidden farming facility?"
- ―Darth Maul
A set of farms used by the indigenous Gungan species was located in the Gungan Swamp on the planet Naboo. The farms were located north of the[1] underwater[2] city Rellias, which was led by the Gungan Boss Ganne. The farms were built on grassy terrain surrounded by trees, with an obscured path leading towards them from the south. A hidden path through the trees on the eastern side of the farms led to a military compound used by Ganne.[1]
Five prefab shelters affiliated with Ganne's forces were located within the southern entrance to the farms, which themselves were located further up the path and on its eastern side. The farmland was arranged around two Food processing centers, where the worker glurrgs would store food gathered from the farms. The processing centers were within the range of two power cores, structures that improved the technological efficiency of the buildings.[1]
History
- "Excellent. We have destroyed their farming capability. I regret we don't have time to watch them starve. Our mission still requires us to press on."
- ―Darth Maul

In 32 BBY, the farms were tended to by eight Glurrgs, and guarded by six kaadu-riding militiagung cavalry and three armored kaadu. That year, Naboo was invaded by the Trade Federation, who sent the Trade Federation Droid Army to attack the Gungans under the direction of the Sith apprentice Darth Maul.[1] The Zabrak Sith came across the Gungan farms[3] while searching for Boss Ganne, whom he intended to force to reveal to the location of Otoh Gunga, the Gungan capital. Maul determined that he could not tolerate the farming operations there.[1] He killed the Gungans and glurrgs and destroyed the farms while the portion of the Droid Army accompanying him continued on to Ganne's compound.[3] Maul expressed satisfaction after destroying the farms and wished that he could witness the impact that their loss would have on the Gungans food supply.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Gungan farms appeared in the fifth level of the Trade Federation campaign (menu pictured) in Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds.
The hidden Gungan farms were first mentioned in Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds: Prima's Official Strategy Guide by Steven L. Kent,[3]—released on November 7, 2001[4]—before appearing in the LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds,[1] released on November 11, 2001.[5] The farms appear in the fifth level of the Trade Federation campaign: "The Search for an Underwater Kingdom." Destroying the farms is optional for the player, and doing so provdes them with three additional droidekas for their army.[1] The strategy guide recommends that the player use Maul to attack the Gungans there, confirming the destruction of the farms as canonical within the Star Wars Legends continuity.[3]
The number of Gungans defending the farms changes depending on the difficulty level selected. In easy mode, four kaadu cavalry are present, while in moderate difficulty, an additional two armored kaadu cavalry are also present. In hard difficulty, which this article follows, there are six kaadu cavalry and three armored cavalry.[1]
The 2012 short story "End Game," written by James Luceno, presents a contradictory account of the Trade Federation's capture of Boss Ganne, which does not include the attack on the Gungan farms.[2] This article follows events as depicted in Galactic Battlegrounds.
