"No monarch has had a bodyguard like that since the last dispute with the Gungans, and that was generations ago. And I am still not entirely sure that there is a reason to return to the practice."
―Padmé Amidala, to Sabé[1]

A dispute arose between the Gungan and the Naboo several generations before Padmé Amidala was elected Queen of the Naboo. At the time, the situation required the monarch to employ a bodyguard, a practice that would not be reintroduced until Amidala's reign.[1]
