Grease pencils were a type of pencil used by pilots to mark wires for repair. At some point during the High Republic Era, indentured workers serving as Byne Guild pilots used the tools to handwrite coded pictographs and dates onto a row of lockers and bay doors on the Amaxine Space Station, warning future visitors of the space station's dangers.[1] In 232 BBY,[2] the Byne Guild pilot Affie Hollow discovered the grease pencil writings and attempted to make sense of them but found the symbols unreadable without prior understanding of their intent.[1]
