- "Furthermore, for all of his perceived sophistication—apparently his analysis of artwork gave him insights into the tactics and tendencies of his opponents—he had no qualms in bombarding civilian targets on Lothal or causing significantly high casualties at Batonn and, as a result, should not be thought of as any more civilized in his approach to war than any other Imperial officer."
- ―Beaumont Kin in The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire
Grand Admiral Thrawn's bombardment was a file kept in the Post-Imperial Lothal Archives, "Imperial Occupation" section that pertained to the period in which the Outer Rim planet Lothal was occupied by the Galactic Empire. The file discussed the attempted bombardment of Capital City by Grand Admiral Thrawn[1] just prior to the planet's liberation.[2] Historian Beaumont Kin referenced the file in his history book, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire,[1] in 35 ABY,[3] remarking that Thrawn’s tactics as detailed in the file were no more sophisticated than other Imperial officers, despite Thrawn’s reported sophisticated approach to warfare.[1]
Behind the scenes
The file on Grand Admiral Thrawn's bombardment was first referenced in the 2024 reference book Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, written by Chris Kempshall. It referenced[1] the events of the Star Wars Rebels series finale, "Family Reunion – and Farewell."[2]

Star Wars Rebels — "Family Reunion – and Farewell"
- ↑ Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire states that thirty years have passed since the end of the Galactic Civil War and months have passed since the Battle of Exegol. As Star Wars: Timelines dates the end of the war to 5 ABY and the Battle of Exegol to 35 ABY, the in-universe The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire must have been published in 35 ABY.
