Grand Admiral Pitta's torpedo sphere was a nineteen-hundred-meter vessel that Grand Admiral Danetta Pitta took command of when he became a warlord independent from the Galactic Empire. In 5 ABY's Battle of Tralus, Pitta used the torpedo sphere to decimate the warship armada of rival Grand Admiral Josef Grunger, but the latter then rammed his flagship, the Aggressor, into Pitta's craft, killing both of them.
Description
Grand Admiral Pitta's torpedo sphere[4] was a massive torpedo sphere[2] that was manufactured by Loronar Defense Industries[1] and measured 1,900 meters in diameter.[3]
History
Grand Admiral Danetta Pitta perished while in command of the torpedo sphere.
When the Galactic Empire began fragmenting in the aftermath of the Battle of Endor, Imperial Grand Admiral Danetta Pitta[2] became a self-proclaimed warlord[5] and used his wealth to become the unofficial protector of the Corellian sector, in the process taking command of the torpedo sphere.[2] In 5 ABY,[6] however, Grand Admiral Josef Grunger, who had amassed an armada of starships including thirty Imperial-class and Victory-class Star Destroyers and over one hundred cruisers, planned to use the sector as a base to launch a strike at the Imperial capital world, Coruscant.[2]
Forced to defend his holdings, Pitta put the torpedo sphere to ingenious use, decimating Grunger's fleet in a battle[2] at the Corellian system's planet Tralus.[4] Pridefully refusing to back down, however, Grunger rammed his flagship,[2] the nineteen-thousand-meter Executor-class Star Dreadnought[6] Aggressor, into the heart of Pitta's craft,[2] leading to the Aggressor's destruction[6] and the death of both Grand Admirals.[2]
Behind the scenes
The torpedo sphere used by Grand Admiral Danetta Pitta was first mentioned in the article "Who's Who: Imperial Grand Admirals," which was authored by Daniel Wallace and Abel G. Peña and published in the sixty-sixth issue of the Star Wars Insider magazine[2] on February 14, 2003.[7] That article was in turn a reworked version of an article on the Galactic Empire's Grand Admirals that Wallace and Peña had written for an issue of the Star Wars Gamer magazine. The publication of the latter article was prevented by that magazine's eventual cancellation.[8] 2008's The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia subsequently introduced an official name for Grand Admiral Pitta's torpedo sphere.[4]
