Gold 5 was the designation of a BTL-A4 Y-wing in service to the Alliance to Restore the Republic. It was flown by Davish "Pops" Krail, and he personally supervised all repairs and maintenance conducted on the starfighter.[1] Gold 5 was destroyed by Darth Vader during the Battle of Yavin. After Jon Vander and Tiree's Y-wings were destroyed attempting to launch proton torpedoes into the Death Star's thermal exhaust port, Krail pulled out of the trench. The fighter's right engine was blown off, and the rest of the craft exploded shortly after.[4]
