A resort satellite was one of many in orbit of the gas giant Gilatter VIII that was built during the time of the Old Republic. During a brief era when planetary artistic appreciation was the primary focus of wealthy families' holidays, patrons would visit the resort satellites and marvel at Gilatter VIII's beauty. As tastes changed, the resort satellites closed down. The last to close shut down approximately 150 years before 40 ABY, but in that year, it was temporarily resurrected.
During the Second Galactic Civil War, Turr Phennir, newly-elected Supreme Commander of the Confederation military, lured his enemies in the Galactic Alliance to the satellite. They took the bait, and a battle ensued. The Alliance believed that Confederation delegates would be aboard the satellite, but Phennir instead had actors play their roles.
