- "I almost pity the poor Devaronian. But you should know—Gholan is not your average prisoner. He knows the key's valuable. Plus he's trained in the Force, and highly violent. The Republic tried executing him four times. That's when they shipped him to Belsavis. Now Gholan thinks he can't die. He's refusing to hand over the key to Ruger's guard station."
- ―Medechas
Gholan was a Devaronian male criminal who was imprisoned in Belsavis prison during the Galactic War. A crazed Force-sensitive with some training, Gholan somehow survived four execution attempts by the Galactic Republic, forcing the Republic to send him to Belsavis. During the invasion of Belsavis by the Sith Empire, Gholan stole the key to Marshal Ellis Ruger's guard station, and refused all of the Empire's offers to trade for the key. As a result, Lord Medechas dispatched Imperial forces to kill Gholan and retrieve the key.[2]
Behind the scenes
Gholan appears on Belsavis in the video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, where he is the target of the Imperial mission "Fifth Time's the Charm."[2]

Forums: Dear Story Team, What Year Are We Currently In? on The Old Republic's official website (backup link) and Star Wars: The Old Republic Encyclopedia establish that the Battle of Ilum and the end of Act III for the class storylines of Star Wars: The Old Republic occur in late 3640 BBY and prior to the events of The Old Republic: Annihilation, which is also set in 3640 BBY per The Essential Reader's Companion. Annihilation establishes that the Treaty of Coruscant collapsed approximately eighteen months prior, or in 3641 BBY, and as Act III occurs after the treaty's collapse, the act begins sometime between 3641 BBY and 3640 BBY. This article assumes that Belsavis, as the start of Act III, takes place around the end of 3641 BBY.
