Prior to the Invasion of Naboo, Brass Marshoo owned a restaurant called General Marshoo's Eatery at Otoh Gunga. In 33 BBY, he discovered that the Gungan Jar Jar Binks attempted to steal his food supplies. The chef reacted violently but Captain Roos Tarpals arrived to settle the dispute. Tarpals arrested Binks for his theft but Marshoo did not believe that the captain would really punish his friend Jar Jar. The chef claimed that Tarpals used his status to protect Binks and became particularly enraged, interfering with Tarpals' arrest of Binks. In his anger, he knocked Tarpals unconscious to get at Binks. Binks, with help from Tarpals' kaadu managed to fend off Marshoo. After regaining consciousness, Tarpals tied Marshoo up and then arrested Binks.[1]

Three decades later, during the time of the Galactic Civil War, Brass Marshoo still lived on Naboo.[2] In 1 ABY,[3] Marshoo was present at the Lake Retreat where he hired a spacer to kill some wild animals, including fanned rawls, peko-pekos and motts.[2]

Behind the scenes

Brass Marshoo first appeared in The Death of Captain Tarpals, a short comic featured in Star Wars Tales #3.[1]

Brass Marshoo also appeared as a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[2] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[4] Marshoo was located at the Lake Retreat where he gave three completable missions. However, these quests were bugged and lacked any text dialogue strings, rendering it impossible to have derived much context from them.[2][5] For this reason, these quests were deactivated by the developers relatively early in the game's lifespan. Brass Marshoo remained at the Lake Retreat, but would only tell players who interacted with him that he did not have time for them.

  3. The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
