- "Open the gate, Gungan."
"No! Mesa no betrayin' Otoh Gunga!"
"You will open the gate."
[hypnotized] "Mesa… open gate." - ―Darth Maul and Ganne at the Gates of Rellias
The Gates of Rellias were the gates that protected the Rellias Straits located on the planet of Naboo. During the Invasion of Naboo, Sith apprentice Darth Maul used the captured Boss Ganne to open the gate. In doing so he let the Trade Federation use the Rellias channel.
Description
- "Now we must find the Gates of Rellias somewhere to the southwest."
- ―Darth Maul, after capturing Boss Ganne
The Gates of Rellias were a trio of gates located in the Gungan city Rellias on[1] the Mid Rim[2] planet Naboo.[1] One gate was located on the western entrance to Rellias, another in the middle of the city, and the last in the southern exit leading towards the Rellias Straits,[1] which connected to Lake Paonga and Otoh Gunga, the Gungan capital.[3] The gates were used to repel intruders but could be opened by the command of Ganne, the boss of Rellias.[1]
History
- "We must find the encampment to the southeast and capture the Gungan leader. He is the only one who can lead us to the gates of the Rellias channel. I must capture him personally."
- ―Darth Maul
In 32 BBY, the Trade Federation launched an Invasion of Naboo and sought to conquer the Gungan species. The Sith apprentice Darth Maul was tasked with finding Otoh Gunga,[1] and discovered that Boss Ganne was key to doing so. After capturing Ganne with the support of the Trade Federation Droid Army, Maul mind tricked him into both revealing that they needed to pass through the Rellias Straits to access Otoh Gunga and giving them access to the city through the gates.[3] At the gates, Ganne attempted to resist Maul's orders to open them, but the Sith was able to extend the effectiveness of his mind trick to do so. After passing through the gates and eliminating the Gungan forces in Rellias, the Droid Army reached Otoh Gunga,[1] only to discover that it had been evacuated in response to their attack on Rellias.[3]
