A gas dispenser was a defense mechanism, it released airborne chemicals intended to incapacitate or eliminate intruders upon activation by a trigger or detection device. To enhance their effectiveness and minimize collateral damage, these dispensers often activated doors that sealed the chamber, creating an airtight space. The dispenser itself might have been hidden behind a ventilation duct or concealed within another device. The potential effects of the gas were nearly limitless, but the most common types typically rendered victims unconscious or lethal.[1]
