Gap Nine was a backwater swamp planet home to a reptilian species.[3]
History
- "Long before the Empire, travelers fell from the sky. They were monsters, beasts and foul vermin. They created temples dedicated to darkness and evil. Other travelers soon followed. They were noble warriors who carried with them swords of burning light. After a terrible battle, the creatures were finally destroyed and purged from this world. The warriors turned their dark temples into storehouses of knowledge and peace."

Around 1500 BBY, during the New Sith Wars, the Sith[4] settled on the planet where they built temples to evil spirits. This group was eventually defeated by the Jedi, who transformed the temples into storehouses of knowledge.[3]
During the years of the Galactic Empire, these temples were robbed for their precious artifacts by the Empire, and an Imperial fuel-ore processing plant was built. During the Galactic Civil War, the ore facility was sabotaged by the Rebel Alliance.[3]
