G-3PO was a 3PO protocol droid aboard a starship that was attacked by pirates. Along with several other droids, including Z-3PO and B-3PO, G-3PO discovered Pax Maripher, the only survivor of the attack. The protocol droids raised Maripher until he was rescued fifteen years later, whereupon the droids returned to their regular duties.^[2]
