WookieeProjects > WookieeProject Web > WPWeb:Starwars.com naked links

Since the end of the 2020 archive link project, a main concern for former participants has been to track links not supported by our internet citation systems, or "naked links" as we colloquially call them. The issue with them is they are most likely not accompanied by an archive links. We enjoyed some progress on this, notably on file pages, but we're far from seeing the end of it. In fact, my personal estimation is that there is at least a minimum of 1500 articles still hosting naked links.

Starwars.com seems to be the most extensive offender, and JediMasterMacaroni devised a plan to tackle this particular issue. In April 2021, taking advantage of both Special:LinkSearch sensitivity between http and https and the fact that older websites were not yet using https, Jedi-Mac edited {{SWArchive}}, {{DB}}, {{SWE}}, {{Hyperspace}} and {{Blog}} to change http to https, meaning at the moment, any link starting like http://www.starwars.com on wookieepedia isn't included in a template. This results in a 2573 pages, including all namespace. If we subtract the pages including Forum:, Talk:, User:, and Wookieepedia:, it fall short of 1300 pages. Task

Nothing as complicated as the archive links project, we just use LinkSearch, open a page, find the link and fix it with a template. Et voilà. Rinse and repeat.

Tip: some links listed on LinkSearch under http (thus, without template) maybe already exist on another page with https (with a template), so be mindful to always check the link you're trying to fix for an https equivalent on LinkSearch (best to have two page open, one with the global http list and one for https verification).

Note that subdomains are also concerned! Here's the lists to check:

Discussion

Using this same page, once we're done with the http cleanup, I'll reverse the trick to do a https cleanup. I'm not even sure if its needed, but at least, we'll be certain. NanoLuukeCloning facility 13:45, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
