Maximum efficiency (talk - history - links - logs)

I confess I've never read Star by Star, but this looks like (at best) a one-book in-joke. What's next, an article for "Yub yub, commander"? Gonk (Gonk!) 17:47, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Delete

  1. Gonk (Gonk!) 17:47, 7 July 2007 (UTC) - just a vote, no reason given Reason: See above. Not notable. If the phrase is picked up by lots of other authors in other works, so that it approaches "I have a bad feeling about this" in notability, then it can stay. Also, it's been merged. Gonk (Gonk!) 15:45, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
  2. All right, all right. I moved the information to YVH 1, ok? - Graestan 19:13, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
    • Works for me. Gonk (Gonk!) 12:40, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
  3. Delete, as info has been moved into YVH 1. This is a bad precedent. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Talk page) 15:57, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
  4. Delete. Per "culture" discussion below: How is this different than C-3PO's phrase 'We're doomed!' ? That's part of his culture and character. Jedi Master Fiolli 15:43, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
  5. No. No, no, no. Thefourdotelipsis 00:10, 2 August 2007 (UTC) - just a vote, no reason given
  6. Per Gonk, except I was worried about an article about "We're doomed!".--Goodwood 15:44, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
  7. Minimum relevance Enochf 07:21, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
  8. Who's honestly going to go onto this Wiki and look for this article? Not necessary. Unit 8311 08:26, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Keep

  1. Of course you haven't read Star by Star. The book and most of its contents, are the objects of a singleminded slander campaign that regrettably pervades even on this supposedly neutral wiki. - Graestan 19:05, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
  2. Keep to be argumentative and simply because of its use several times in the book. It's not entirely a joke like the yub-yub thing, and it's actually kind of interesting that the droids have enough psychological capacity to praise the fulfillment of another's purpose. Wildyoda 04:58, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
  3. If it's in the book, it's canon. -- Riffsyphon1024 05:06, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
  4. If it's canon, I vote keep. KEJ 07:59, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Comments

  • Et tu, Gonk? I believe I may know what you're getting at, I suppose. Maybe I'll just move the pertinent information to related pages. - Graestan 19:05, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
  • For those voting "keep" . . . every single sentence spoken by a character is canon. That doesn't make those sentences encyclopedic or article worthy. Even sentences repeated *several* times aren't necessarily encyclopedic or article worthy. What makes this phrase different? jSarek 01:32, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
    • "Cultural" significance among the Termina... YVH-1 droids? KEJ 06:25, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
      • Yes, but do we have evidence of that other than the fact they say it a few times in one of the books? jSarek 10:09, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
        • I think this is one of those kind of catch 22 situations we've seen a couple of times in the trash compactor. There is no evidence to indicate that it is, other than common sense, and there is no evidence to indicate that it isn't, other that common sense again. Whether we keep it or delete it, it just doesn seem right either way. KEJ 10:00, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
          • Fair enough. You've talked me out of a delete and into an abstention. ;-) jSarek 10:23, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
            • I've even talked myself into abstention. KEJ 11:27, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
              • Not me. Common sense tells me that droids don't have culture, so how can it have "cultural significance"? Just because they have personalities isn't enough evidence for us to assume they have culture—that strikes me as original research. And as far as Wildyoda's assertion that "it's actually kind of interesting that the droids have enough psychological capacity to praise the fulfillment of another's purpose," sure it is, but (A) there are a lot of interesting concepts in SW books we don't (and shouldn't) have entire articles on, and (B) it's also kind of interesting that C-3PO has the psychological capacity to relentlessly browbeat R2's fulfullment of his purpose. Does that mean we need an article on each and every insult C-3PO ever flung at R2? Gonk (Gonk!) 15:57, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
                • If they communicate with each other and if the have values that they share, then they have culture, at least according to some theories in culture studies. Common sense is an invalid a basis for arguments regardless of whether those arguments are in support or favor of your standing. Your common sense argument is as much original research, or speculative, as Wildyoda's. I'm not going to comment on the 'false parallel' arguments about articles on every single insult flung by 3PO or about every single sentence spoken by a character. P.S. this was not intended as a personal attack or a hostile post - I hope it will not be construed as such. KEJ 20:24, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Is precedent important anyway? If this article should be deleted - which it should - then it should be deleted, followed by the others. If it shouldn't be, don't delete it. Simple as that. I'd vote 'delete' myself and move the info to a relevant article, but as I'm fairly new here, I abstain in this case. I've voted regarding two articles already. -Safe-Keeper 07:48, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Just because you're new doesn't mean your opinion counts for less.--Goodwood 17:19, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
