Cheekbone (talk - history - links - logs)

Seems gratuitous to me. Do we need an article on every body part ever mentioned in canon? The information here should be merged into skeleton bone and left there, IMO. ~SavageBOB sig 00:43, August 21, 2011 (UTC)

  1. This is no different than any other article in Category:Anatomy. Getting rid of canonical information about the Star Wars universe is senseless and arbitrary.-LtNOWIS 02:14, August 29, 2011 (UTC)
    • Just to clarify, no one has suggested getting rid of canonical information, only merging it into a larger article. ~SavageBOB sig 02:57, August 29, 2011 (UTC)
      • But with only one appearances list, tracking individual bones will be a lot harder. -LtNOWIS 04:58, August 30, 2011 (UTC)
        • I still fail to see the necessity, and I think in this case, hyperinclusionism is detrimental for two reasons: first, every SW source that includes the image of a humanoid face needs to be added to the page as a source or appearance. That amount of sources pretty much removes any utility the list of appearances would have had in the first place. Second, by the logic of keeping this, we need to then track every body part ever mentioned in SW ever and give them pages: index finger, eyelash, nostril, toenail, etc. What purpose does this serve? Is it worth the extra headache to update thousands of articles on body parts to keep their sources and appearances lists current? And how do we justify the keeping of an article that differs little to none from what that article would look like on a non-SW encyclopedia (this criticism perhaps more appropriate for hyoid bone)? ~SavageBOB sig 22:19, September 6, 2011 (UTC)
          • I think the obvious approach would be restricted to citing sources with direct references of body parts, IE the specific use of the word "cheekbone" within a SW publication, and perhaps any visual cues that focus specifically on the cheek, with the all-important common sense being our guide. DD97Which bear is best? 01:22, September 7, 2011 (UTC)
            • Well, my common sense tells me a SW encyclopedia doesn't need or have use for an article on cheekbones. ;P But what about index finger and eyebrow? When something doesn't differ all that much in SW from the real world, there's just really no need for an article about it, IMO. ~SavageBOB sig 03:19, September 7, 2011 (UTC)

Discussion

  • Redirect to Bone? Or do you have designs on that article, as well? DD97Which bear is best? 13:59, August 22, 2011 (UTC)
  • Just throwing this out there, that the article Hyoid bone exists as well. If we're going to effectively make a precedent/policy for this type of thing, it should encompass every article of this type. Toprawa and Ralltiir 17:38, August 22, 2011 (UTC)
    • Thanks for the comments, guys. I've amended the options above and nominated hyoid bone for merging as well. I suppose we could get away with just skeleton, but bone makes sense as a separate article in that bones make up the skeleton. ~SavageBOB sig 20:57, August 22, 2011 (UTC)
  • What about changing the "examples" section in bone to list the different bones we'll be merging in there. Or leave that section as is and just add another section that lists them. Cal JediInfinite Empire (Personal Comm Channel) 13:23, September 9, 2011 (UTC)
    • That's a great idea. I mean, if we do our job right, the bone article should be fleshed out to say what bone is mentioned where anyway. So, in the case of cheekbone, it would indicate that high cheekbones were a sign of high breeding or whatever. In short, you're right; there's no reason the individual information couldn't be merged into the bone article; then if folks really wanted to find the original source for hyoid bones or cheekbones only, they would be able to do so via the "Notes and references" section. ~SavageBOB sig 12:20, September 13, 2011 (UTC)
      • Okay, that sounds good. Cal JediInfinite Empire (Personal Comm Channel) 13:14, September 13, 2011 (UTC)
